I love setting a reading goal for myself at the start of every year. For me its like a fun little game to play while also doing my favorite thing. It helps me to keep making time for reading, even when I feel like I am too busy for my hobbies. I just reached my reading goal on December 1st, but I will say that I did not think I was going to make it to my goal this year (and that's okay!).

The status of my reading goals always fluctuates and there are definitely times when I 'fall behind schedule' on reaching my goal. With the last bit of the year approaching, I know it can be crunch time for those of you who are looking to meet a certain number of books read. December is also a busy month where I know that finding time for myself to sit down and committing to an entire novel can be hard! Sometimes a short read is just needed.

While it is definitely important to enjoy reading, no matter the quantity or speed... I wanted to share some of my recommendations of short stories/novellas to help tack on a few more to your goals!

*Side note: a novella is defined as "a work of fiction intermediate in length and complexity between a short story and a novel" (Merriam Webster). For me a short book is also anything under 250 pages.

The Santa Suit - Mary Kay Andrews (161 Pages)

A short and sweet holiday read! If you enjoy Hallmark style stories or a sweet and fluffy romance, this one is a great pick!

The Three of Us - Ore Agbaje-Williams (144 Pages)

What if the two most important people in your life hated each other with a passion? This book is a debut explores cultural truths, what it means to defy them, and the fine line between compromise and betrayal.

Before The Coffee Gets Cold - Toshikazu Kawaguchi (272 Pages - a little over on pages but I really enjoyed this one!)

In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a café which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time.

The Honeymoon Crashers - Christina Lauren (The Unhoneymooners 1.5 - Audio)

Equal parts hilarious and swoon-worthy, this full-cast production is your ticket to the ultimate destination wedding, bringing to life both a captivating couple and an unforgettable family.

Lucky - Marissa Stapely (234 Pages)

What if you had the winning ticket that would change your life forever, but you couldn't cash it in? A thrilling roller-coaster ride about a heist gone terribly wrong, with a plucky protagonist who will win readers' hearts.

Veronica Ruiz Breaks The Bank - Elle Cosimano (Finlay Donovan Series, audio and e-book)

If yo have followed me on Instagram for a while, then its no secret that I LOVE the Finlay Donovan series! This short story is number 3.5 in the series and is a fun story that gives us a glimpse into Vero's past.

The perks of being a wallflower (213 Pages)

This book is short in pages but mighty in content. I read this book back in 2016 and it still sticks with me to this day. It is one of my favorite books I have read.

I also highly recommend checking out the Kindle Store as I find there is always some amazing e-book only books that are shorter in nature, and so many different genres and types too!
